Mr. Devers teaches High School Language Arts and Careers. Growing up as a military brat, Chris has lived all over the United States and abroad. Some of the unique locations were Iceland, Newfoundland, and Hawaii. Chris attended the University of Alabama-Birmingham, where he majored in Comprehensive Language Arts.
Upon graduating, Chris worked for a small private school devoted to children with specific learning differences, such as ADD, ADHD, Dyslexia, OCD, Asperger’s, and some specific subject based learning differences. Because it was a small school still growing, he had to be flexible enough to teach multiple courses. At this school, he taught a variety of subjects including English, History, Math, Writing, and Drama for grades 6-12.
Chris has also attended many seminars on how to work with children who have learning differences, and how to use technology in the classroom. Through his journey to become an educator, he has discovered that his students have learning differences, not disabilities. This has led him to believe that education is possible for all students with the right accommodations and instructional techniques.
After 13 years of teaching at his previous school, Chris and his wife made the long trek to Vancouver, WA. Since then, they have spent their time getting acclimated to the Pacific Northwest (and all the rain that comes with it!). Chris spent a lot of time tutoring and working on his Washington State teaching certification. That is when he heard about Park Academy. It seemed to be the ideal spot with its similarities to his previous school. Now, he is settling in and getting to know the students and their unique gifts. He is looking forward to a wonderful school year full of student accomplishments.
