2017 Gala – Danny Glover

Personalized approach

Frequently referring families to Park Academy, I count on Park's remarkably ignited, highly qualified staff for positive personalized approaches to assessing and re-assessing each student's strengths and challenges followed by innovative educational techniques drawn from many disciplines.

Thank You

Having teachers and staff that actually cared about me and challenged me to set and achieve goals made all the difference. I was lost, they helped me find my real self.

Positive Impact

As soon as Malachi started at Park we began to see positive changes in him, his confidence began to grow.  For the first time, he actually like going to school. His academic and reading performance greatly improved after just one year. Park helped him recognize his potential by highlighting his strengths and encouraging him to keep trying.

Danny Glover

On June 22, 2017, Danny Glover enchanted guests at the third annual gala at Park Academy. Mr. Glover mingled with guests before joining us for a wonderful dinner, prepared by our friends at GP Catering. As the sun began to set, the live auction and paddle raise opportunity began. Guests had the chance to hear from Joe, a high school student at Park Academy, and his parents who shared his journey with dyslexia that led him to our school. Check out the video below to see the impact of the Park Academy program!

To end the evening, our host Kerry Tymchuk of the Oregon Historical Society interviewed Mr. Glover about his experience with dyslexia, what school and acting were like for him, and how he overcame his obstacles. Mr. Glover beamed on stage as he shared how happy he was that a school like Park Academy exists.

It was a powerful evening. So powerful in fact, that we raised over $320,000 for the Park Academy Scholarship Fund! Thanks to the generosity of so many of our community supporters and that evening’s guests, students will have access to the education they need to be successful regardless of their family’s economic conditions.

For an entire overview of the event, check out this article by Jillian Daley the Lake Oswego Review with quotes from Danny Glover and guests.

Below is a sneak peak of the beautiful photos taken by Andrea Lonas Photography at the event. Check out photos from that evening on Facebook. Don’t forget to tag yourself and your friends!
