As we settle into the second semester, everything appears to be continuing as normal in Dr. Mart’s 5th period pre-calculus class: students are deeply engaged in the work and exchange of ideas! But yesterday, the students went online and enrolled in Portland Community College (PCC) and that is not where these seniors will be attending next year.
Welcome to Park Academy’s first dual credit class! Students are earning concurrent high school and college credit for their pre-calculus class at Park Academy through a partnership with Portland Community College.
Dr. Mart was approved as a certified PCC instructor by meeting the same qualifications required for on-campus faculty. She demonstrated that her pre-calculus content, course materials and outcomes are clearly articulated to the Math 111 College Algebra class taught at PCC – and throughout the Oregon University system!
Students’ final course grades and credits will appear on their official PCC transcript and are also transferable to other colleges.
These students get a head start on their future education by experiencing the rigor and content of a college while still at Park Academy and working with Dr. Mart.
