Thank You

Having teachers and staff that actually cared about me and challenged me to set and achieve goals made all the difference. I was lost, they helped me find my real self.

Positive Impact

As soon as Malachi started at Park we began to see positive changes in him, his confidence began to grow.  For the first time, he actually like going to school. His academic and reading performance greatly improved after just one year. Park helped him recognize his potential by highlighting his strengths and encouraging him to keep trying.

at Park Academy

“An Evening with LeVar Burton” is a sold out event. It culminates with Mr. Burton sharing his passion for literacy and reading for all!

In its fifth year, the Park Academy annual auction is proud to host Mr. Burton as our keynote speaker.  He launched his acting career in the groundbreaking role of Kunta Kinte in the landmark television series, Roots, landing himself on the front cover of Time magazine, at 19! He went on to further global acclaim as Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge in the iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation. But it has been his role as host and executive producer of the beloved PBS children’s series, Reading Rainbow, that he is most proud of, earning over 200 awards. He is also the recipient of 12 Emmy Awards, a Grammy, and five NAACP Awards!

He has demonstrated in his career that he can do it all – acting, directing, producing, writing, and speaking. He now enters his fourth decade in the industry, with millions of fans throughout the world, and continues his mission to inspire, entertain and educate.

“An Evening with LeVar Burton” will support the educational environment at Park Academy that allows students who struggle, to thrive. As you may know, Park Academy is the only school in Oregon with an articulated elementary through high school curriculum specifically designed for students (grades 3 -12) with dyslexia and other language learning challenges. With a 100% graduation rate and 100% of our graduates going onto some form of secondary education, we are changing the trajectory of students’ lives!

This event is sold out.
