The evening began with our third grade class’s rendition of Michael Hall’s Red: A Crayon’s Story. They were joined by sixth grader Jocelyn as Pencil the narrator and the audience was mesmerized!
During the auction, heart strings were tugged by the Witter family’s story of transformation. Their son Riley’s story is told in this video.
In addition, we announced a $1,020,000 Endowed Scholarship in honor three powerful Park Academy Student Champions; Piper Park, Bill Westphal and Gary Maffei. The scholarships being created in their names will ensure the life-changing access for the next generation of Park Academy students that they may not otherwise have ever had.
Lastly, the audience was captivated by LeVar Burton’s presentation which included a reading of his book, The Rhino Who Swallowed a Storm. It closes with a lines, “You’re never really alone when bad things happen. There are family and friends, even people we don’t know, who are always there to help us through tough times.” The supporters and advocates of Park Academy are those people. The compassionate protectors that our students may not even know, who help our students and families as they realize they are not alone.
