Maggie Mae Skyler was born in Wisconsin and grew up in many states in the U.S. She graduated from A.G. West Black Hills High School in Tumwater, Washington. Mrs. Skyler received an AAOT degree from Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. Earning her a Bachelor of Science in General Science with a minor in Spanish and Mathematics from University of Oregon, GO DUCKS!. She attended Pacific University in Woodburn, Oregon to achieve her Master of Arts In Teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
Her undergraduate background focused on scientific research and publishing peer reviewed scientific studies. Some of these papers/studies were on White headed Woodpeckers on the Metolius Preserve in the High Desert of Oregon, Geological history of Paulina Peak Near La Pine, Oregon; as well as many other small group activities with local non-profits to teach prek-12th grades Ecological Restoration. Mrs. Skyler was summer science camp educator and on-call/on-site science educator for k-12th grade schools for A.C. Gilbert Discovery Village in Salem, Oregon for three years.
From being a tutor in her undergraduate years for all college level mathematics, science, spanish, and english classes she learned the skills to teach the knowledge from these subjects to students of all ages. Attending her MAT program in Woodburn, Oregon gave her the ability to teach subjects in the classroom all year such as Zero Robotics, Health, Mathematics, Science, and Spanish to students grades 6-12. Being an avid soccer coach through Salem Keizer Education foundation for 10 years and then an elementary Soccer Coach through Kings Valley Charter School she has coached k-8th grade soccer for 12 years. Mrs. Skyler’s motto is “Our everyday life is science as it is all around us on a daily basis”.
At Park Academy Mrs. Skyler teachs S.T.E.M. 3, S.T.E.M. 4, S.T.E.M. 5, 8th grade Science, Middle School Robotics, High School Robotics, Middle School Coding, and High School Coding. All of her classes also have an art aspect and lots of labs/experiments.
When she is not at work you can find her growing a garden, processing her own food, canning: meat, veggies, sauce, jam, fruits, and syrups, walking her chocolate lab, feeding her rescue pets: green iguana, three leopard geckos, two russian tortoises, Albino Strawberry Lemonade Pac-Man frog, Turkin, Chickens, Ducks, Angelfish, and her cats.
She enjoys hiking, nature, sports, friends, and spending time with her family by the river in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and fishing all year round.
