We welcomed Lindsay Wagner and John Hoke to the Multnomah Athletic Club’s stage on June 16, 2024 to celebrate Park Academy and talk about Ms. Wagner’s lived experiences as a dyslexic learner and her advice for our students and families.
At Park Academy, we believe that students are defined by more than their learning challenges. They all have gifts and talents that may be overshadowed at times by their difficulties but, given time, space, and nurturing will help the students shine as capable and competent learners. We know that our focus on early intervention is the best way to take this advice and apply it. The sooner we can identify and give students the reading instruction they need, the more time they have to explore their talents with confidence in our nurturing and supportive environment.
For our students, this looks like a school with small class sizes, teachers trained in the science of reading, access to appropriate interventions, all in a welcoming and accepting learning community.
