Summer Camp

The Park Center Summer Camp is a four week, half day, campus based program providing structured literacy interventions and summer day camp experiences for students with language-based learning differences entering grades 1-6. You do not need to be a current Park Academy student to apply. Prior to summer camp, students will participate in an orientation and assessment. This assessment is not meant to be diagnostic and will be used to determine individual and group areas of academic focus as well as reading groups.

FAQs

  • What does a typical day look like?

Each day, students will have a one hour, small group, Orton Gillingham based reading intervention and rotate through enrichment classes created to instill a love of learning and promote self esteem, such as art, PE/Movement, and STEM. Students are typically grouped into cohorts of 10 in grades 1-2, 3-4, and 5-6 for their enrichment classes.

  • Is a dyslexia diagnosis required to apply?

Not necessarily, professionals use a wide variety of terms and labels to identify struggles in reading. Students who may benefit from our summer camp may have a specific learning disability in reading and written expression, students at risk for learning disabilities due to family history, and/or students who receive reading interventions in their current academic setting.

  •  Who typically benefits from your program?

The Park Center Summer Camp is an academic intervention program first. A typical camper is a student who is cognitively capable but is not achieving in their academic skills related to reading, spelling, penmanship and/or written expression. Students with social, emotional, and or behavioral needs that take a disproportionate amount of teacher time and/or are impactful on peers may not be appropriate for Park Center Summer Camp.
