Dean of Students

Helena Martyn grew up in the Bay Area of California with her parents and two older sisters. From a young age, she was surrounded by education, helping out in her mom’s preschool classroom and eventually volunteering at a local elementary school. Those early experiences helped spark her passion for working with children. Helena went on to earn both her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and Master of Arts in Education, with an emphasis in Restorative Justice, from the University of California, Davis. Additionally, she received teaching credentials in Social Studies and English for Speakers of Other Languages.

Helena brings more than ten years of experience working with children and in education, beginning her career teaching history and leadership in California. She also served as a Camp Director for a summer camp supporting children and adolescents with Type 1 diabetes. Since moving to Oregon, she has worked in a variety of roles focused in school leadership and student support. Her experience includes serving as a Socioemotional Learning and Behavioral Specialist, PBIS Coordinator, Student Success Coach, MTSS Coordinator, and Instructional Specialist. She is currently enrolled in an Administrative Leadership program at Eastern Washington University.

Helena is especially passionate about social-emotional learning, restorative practices, and creating a positive school community where all students feel supported and empowered. She is excited to continue as a school leader and looks forward to getting to know the students and families at Park Academy.

Outside of school, Helena enjoys gardening, pottery, baking, and watercolor. She shares her home with her two boisterous ginger cats, Oliver and Louisa May, and has a large collection of stuffed animals for students.
