Laura Meeuwsen is an Oregon native. In fact, her family has roots in the Portland area dating back to the 1850’s. Laura loves the natural beauty of our state, and although she enjoys traveling to experience other places, her heart will always be in the Northwest. Laura’s parents were both elementary teachers and she loved spending time helping them in their classrooms. She knew from an early age that she wanted to be an educator. After graduating from Oregon State University with a certification in Elementary Education, Laura went on to teach in both the private and public sectors. She has been an educator for over 20 years.
Laura has worked with a diverse community of learners, each with a unique set of needs. She is a strong advocate for her students. Her goal as an educator has always been to help each of her students grow in their individual areas of need. Laura has completed two levels of training in the Orton-Gillingham Approach and is honored to support the learners at Park Academy as a 3rd grade teacher and reading instructor.
When not at school, Laura enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, reading, and playing games with her husband and four adult children.
